How to Make Wudu

About this infographic

Wudu is more than washing — it prepares the body and the heart to stand before Allah. This step-by-step guide follows the way the Prophet ﷺ performed wudu, as described by ‘Uthman (رضي الله عنه) in Sahih al-Bukhari 159.

“O you who believe, when you rise for prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows…” — Qur’an 5:6

Step 1 — Intention & Bismillah

Intend wudu in the heart and say “Bismillah”.

Step 2 — Wash the hands (×3)

Up to the wrists, and between the fingers.

Step 3 — Rinse the mouth (×3)

Swirl water around the mouth and spit it out.

Step 4 — Rinse the nose (×3)

Draw water in gently, then blow it out.

Step 5 — Wash the face (×3)

From the hairline to the chin, and from ear to ear.

Step 6 — Arms to the elbows (×3)

Right arm first, then the left.

Step 7 — Wipe the head and ears (×1)

Pass wet hands from the front of the head to the back and back again, then wipe the ears.

Step 8 — Feet to the ankles (×3)

Right foot first, and wash between the toes.

A moment to reflect

Teach these steps to your children by doing wudu together. Making it slowly and mindfully turns a daily routine into an act of worship.
